What is THR East?
The Hollywood Reporter East is a full-color multi-page version of the print daily sent electronically every day to subscribers east of the Mississippi. After Gotham and the East Coast papers have been put to bed, The Hollywood Reporter East is still at work, guaranteeing you receive the freshest entertainment news each business day. Each day's issue contains reviews, breaking news and analysis of the film, TV music, theater, advertising, media and publishing industries.
What do I need to get THR East?
You will need an Internet-ready computer, PC or Macintosh, with Web browser and e-mail software installed. You will also need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Acrobat Reader is a free program that works with your Internet software. Click on the button below to download the free Acrobat Reader application.
How does THR East work?
Each business morning you will receive THR East in the form of an Acrobat PDF document as an e-mail attachment. You can either open it directly from within your e-mail program, or download the file and open it separately. You can read it on screen or print it out for office distribution. Any common office laserwriter will produce excellent results. If you have a color printer you can print THR East in color.You can also save the THR East files on your computer for later review.
How much does THR East cost?
THR East is available for a small premium over and above a subscription to the regular Hollywood Reporter daily. You must be a subscriber to the regular Hollywood Reporter to receive THR East.

What is Acrobat PDF?
Acrobat PDF (which stands for "Portable Document Format") is a widely used Internet standard document format that allows users to exchange, view and print electronic documents. Among the thousands of uses of Acrobat PDF are tax forms, product order forms and marketing materials. To open and print Acrobat PDF documents, you will need to install the free Acrobat Reader application.
Why use Acrobat PDF?
Web sites can deliver breaking news, but they can't be easily printed out for those times when you're not at the computer. And plain e-mail newsletters don't have the graphic look most readers prefer. Using Acrobat PDF allows us to send you a printable edition that retains the look of The Hollywood Reporter you're used to.
Then there's the question of deadlines. East Coast papers that cover Hollywood news must close in the early afternon West Coast time, meaning they miss news that breaks in Los Angeles and elsewhere. By delivering electronically, THR East can close much later and get you more breaking news for the next morning.
What other features do Acrobat PDF files provide?
Acrobat PDF files are Internet-enabled, so when you're reading THR East on-screen you'll be able to click on hyperlinks we've included that will take you to more news coverage and Web sites using your Web browser. Many of the advertisements you see in THR East will also have links to company Web sites.

Using Acrobat Reader
What are the controls used in Acrobat Reader?
The most commonly used functions in Acrobat Reader are presented as icons just under the menu row. Here are the ones you will use most when reading THR East:
- Click the folder icon to save the Acrobat document on your computer.
- Click the printer icon to print your document. On a black-and-white printer, a typical day's edition should take about 2 minutes to print; printing in color will take a little longer.
- THR East will display one page at a time. Use the arrow controls to page backward and forward through the document.
- Use the three page icon buttons to control how big THR East displays on your screen. (These controls do not affect how THR East prints.) From left to right, the buttons will display THR East at 100% actual size, as the whole page in whatever size your computer window is set at, and at the full width of your computer monitor.
Troubleshooting
Note: You should refer technical issues to your own computer support stafft, since they are most familiar with your hardware and software set-up. Most problems can be solved by downloading and installing the latest version of Acrobat Reader for your operating system. Click on the button below to download Acrobat Reader.
My company does not allow me to open e-mail attachments. How can I get THR East?
Some companies forbid employees to open e-mail attachments because of security concerns. If there is no one who is allowed to open attachments in your office, you can download the day's edition directly from The Hollywood Reporterby clicking on the link we provide you with each day's THR East e-mail.
When I click on the attachment, my computer tells me it doesn't know how to handle that kind of document.
Assuming you have Acrobat Reader installed, you just need to tell the computer how you want it to handle incoming PDF files. You should only have to do this once.You can choose to open them directly, within your Web browser, or you can choose to save the file to your computer, where you can click on it to open it separately. If you continue to have problems, try reinstalling Acrobat Reader. This should re-set your computer to handle PDF files correctly.
When I print out THR East the top/bottom gets cut off.
When you select Print, click the "Fit to Page" option.
General printer performance issues
We recommend that you print THR East on laserwriters at 600dpi; higher resolutions are not necessary but can increase print time. Printing at lower resolutions will be faster.
Printing on deskjet or inkjet printers will take longer, but these steps will speed up your output:
-- Turn off any "photo" or "photo-quality" mode your printer may use. This mode is not necessary with THR East but can increase print time.
-- Set resolution no higher than 720dpi. Higher resolutions are not required. Printing at lower resolutions will be significantly faster.
